Summary:
Louise is a second year student at the Tristain Academy of Magic but she's extremely poor in magic, thus earning her a nickname - Zero Louise. The day for the second year students to summon their familiars (tsukaima), which are their eternal protectors and partners has arrived. Instead of summoning a magical creature, Louise gets a human commoner named Saito Hiraga. In her world, those who can use magic are considered nobles. Left with no choice, Louise reluctantly accepts Saito and treats him badly like a dog.
One day, Saito challenges Guiche, another noble who looks down upon commoners. He is beaten badly at first but once he gets hold of a sword, he gains power and defeats Guiche. It turns out that he is the legendary powerful familiar of a void mage, Gandalfr. This hints that Louise might possess the rare Void magic. The relationship of Louise and Saito develops as they uncover many mysteries together.
