Inuyasha

Summary:
The story begins in Feudal Japan when Inuyasha, a half-demon (hanyo), steals the Jewel of Four Souls from a village. He is then shoot by a young shrine maiden (miko), Kikyo, which seals him eternally onto the sacred tree Goshinboku. Kikyo then tells her sister, Kaede, to burn the jewel with her body to prevent it from falling into the hands of evil before she dies of a serious wound.

Fast forward into modern Tokyo. While on her way to school, a high school girl named Kagome Higurashi, tries to retrieve her cat from the well in her family's Shinto shrine. She is attacked by a centipede demon that emerges from the well and is pulled into the Sengoku period of Japan.

Not knowing where she is, Kagome wanders around and spots Inuyasha, who is still sealed onto the sacred tree. Villagers seize her and bring her to the old priestess, Kaede. Kaede soon recognizes Kagome as the reincarnation of her sister, Kikyo, and finds out that she posseses the Jewel of Four Souls. The centipede demon attacks again and Kagome runs into the woods where Inuyasha is. She is forced to release him from his sleep so that he can kill the demon.

After defeating the demon, Inuyasha attempts to take away the jewel from Kagome. In order to thwart Inuyasha's plan and to protect Kagome, Kaede places magical prayer beads around Inuyasha's neck so that Kagome can subdue him.

Soon, the reappearance of the Jewel of Four Souls attract many demons (yokai). In a battle with the carrion crow demon, Kagome accidentally shoot the jewel with her arrow and the jewel is shattered into numerous shards that spread across Japan. Thus, it is the start of the adventure of Kagome and Inuyasha to gather the shards and restore the Jewel of Four Souls. Along the way, they befriend a small fox demon, Shippo; a cursed monk, Miroku; and a ill-fated demon-slayer, Sango. Together, they encounter many challenges, friends and enemies including Inuyasha's daiyokai brother, Sesshoumaru; the resurrected Kikyo; evil hanyo, Naraku; and a wolf demon, Koga.
