Sakura Kinomoto is a 10-year-old girl living in Tamoeda, Japan. She's the youngest of the family, staying with her elder brother Toya and her father Fujitaka. Her mother Nadeshiko passed away when Sakura was just 3 years old.
Sakura is very good at sports and hates Mathematics. She's always cheerful and energectic. Her best friend is Tomoyo Daidouji, whom she has known since the 3rd-grade.
Sakura secretly has a crush on her brother's best friend, Yukito Tsukishiro. Yukito treats her nicely unlike Toya, who always bully her. She often gets 'floaty' feelings around Yukito.
One day, upon a chance, Sakura mistakenly unleashes the Clow Cards and awakens the card guardian Cerberus. As she's found to be possessing magical powers by her ability to open the The Clow book, she's been given the responsibility to capture all the loosing Clow Cards.
While on her mission, Sakura gets to meet Li Syaoran, a distant relative of the owner of the Clow Cards, Clow Reed. At first, they constantly fight over the attention of Yukito and the cards. But slowly, friendship blossoms. Unknowningly, Syaoran starts to develop special feelings towards Sakura.
After successfully captured all the Clow Cards, Sakura is forced to face the judgment day, a day which the other card guardian Yue will determine whether Sakura is fit to be the new owner of the cards. Surprisingly, Yukito turns out to be the alter-ego of Yue. Sakura manages to pass the judgment and gets to get her own cards, Sakura Cards.
